Jump aboard to Asia’s first dedicated creative space for children and families, Playeum’s Children’s Centre for Creativity presents its annual event ‘The Big Draw’ on Sunday, 9 October 2016, 11am to 6pm.
A special free event for children aged 1 – 12 and their families, this year’s festivities at The Big Draw features free exciting activities revolving around the theme of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
In addition to these exciting activities, the Children’s Centre for for Creativity will be opened all day with FREE admission for all visitors to catch the final month of the current hands-on exhibition ‘Hideaways – Creating with Nature’ (read more on our guide of this exhibition here). An engaging and immersive hands-on experience, ‘Hideaways – Creating with Nature’ invites children to explore, observe, construct, reflect, innovate and engage with nature and natural materials through hands-on exhibits and interactive artists’ installations. No pre-registration required for activities except for ‘Tell A Story Through Stop Motion Animation.

The Amazing Shapes Trail
Presented by Playeum and Imagin8tors | Suitable for children aged 3-12
Pick up your trail any time between 11am – 5pm
Go on an adventure and hunt for different shapes around Gillman Barracks! Look around you to discover and draw all kinds of shapes in a booklet specially provided at the Children’s Centre for Creativity. How many shapes can you spot in a work of art, or in the leafy nature surrounding Gillman Barracks? Cover specific areas, get creative and collect stamps along the way. Come back to Playeum to claim your special token when you have completed the activity!
Power Up Gillman
Presented by Imagin8ors | Suitable for children aged 2-12
Drop in any time between 11am – 6pm
Let’s have fun with technology! Tinker with recycled materials and immerse yourself in an environment where paper meets electronics by building upon the landscape of Gillman Barracks in this all day drop-in activity at Playeum’s Children Centre for Creativity. Integrate circuits, add on 3D structures and personalise your creations with LED lights in this collaborative installation layout that will gradually expand as the day goes on!
Puppets
Presented by Come and Make | Suitable for children aged 5-12
Drop in any time between 11am – 6pm
Tell your own stories with puppet play! Using everyday materials, parents and children can work together to create a puppet theatre to tell their favourite story. Work with the puppets provided puppets or make your own!
Tell A Story Through Stop Motion Animation

Enjoy collective storytelling through stop motion animation. In this creative workshop, children can contribute individual ideas to create a group story, then fabricate their own puppet actors, and learn to animate. Don’t miss this collaborative, fun activity that encourages quirky storytelling ideas, creativity, experimentation, and imagination.
