When it comes to ironing out pregnancy aches and pains, an indulgent prenatal massage is an irresistible deal. Where to find a well-qualified and experienced spa salon for a prenatal rub down? Well, only recently after being heavily preggy, I discovered a highly raved wellness centre that offers mothers-to-be and new mothers a form of sanctuary from pregnancy and for after birth at Paragon —- Beauty. Mums & Babies.
PREGNANCY ACHES & PAIN
Studies indicate that prenatal massage performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labour outcomes and newborn health.
Lists of potential benefits of prenatal massage:
- Reduces back and ligament pain
- Reduced edema
- Improved oxygenation of soft tissues and muscles
- Better sleep
- Reduces stress hormones
- Improves body tones
- Relieves physical and mental fatigue
- Relieves leg cramp
- Enhances muscles & joint functions
- Improves blood circulation
So given that I’m in my 2nd trimester (currently expecting my 2nd one), I was frazzled and aching way below at the pelvis as the ligaments have to soften to give way to the little one to grow. Every step or lifting of legs gave out a throbbing sharp pain, and there’s no yoga poses or exercise to fully elevate the throb of my changing body.
Many of the mums from the group chat I join have advice going for a relaxing Prenatal massage as it shares many of the goals of regular massage – to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just to feel rejuvenate at the end of the day. I decided to try one myself.
One of these days, a promotion post from Beauty. Mums & Babies that appeared on my Facebook page. It was targetted at preggy mommies with an irresistible trial session of $38 instead of their usual price at $150, so I set a date to give it a try to see if the magic touch can really shrug away the discomfort of being heavily pregnant.

ONE STOP WELLNESS CENTRE FOR MUMS & BABIES
Upon arrival at the outlet at Paragon level 5, I met up with the amicable Lady Boss, Managing director and Founder of Beauty. Mums & Babies. Ms Genah told me her dream of expanding her skin care empire to providing a wellness centre where mothers as well as to babies can benefit from. Liked any of her employees, she ensures her knowledge on her product and her hands-on skills are on par with her team of experienced therapists whom she sent for regular certified training and upgrades.
Having founded Beauty. Mums & Babies in 2004, it became a one-stop wellness centre that offers face, body and movement wellness for both mums and babies. The lists of baby and mummy services go on and on:
- BB Spa & Massage
- Pre-Natal & Post-Natal Massage
- Mummy & Baby Yoga
- Pre-Natal Yoga, Post-Natal Yoga and Couple Yoga
- Lactation Massage
- Baby Care Workshops and Classes
- Pregnancy and Baby Wellness Workshops
- Facial and Beauty Treatments
- Slimming Treatments
- Photography package (Upcoming)
What makes this place stand out was its specialise use of Hydrotherapy during their Baby Spa session. Being the first in Singapore to use filtered Japanese spring water providing additional benefits for baby. Not only it soothes eczema, rashes and skin inflammation, the feedback was highly recommended by parents who came as it’s suitable for babies’ delicate skin and free of harsh chemicals such as chlorine.
SAFE PRODUCTS FOR MUMS & CERTIFIED THERAPISTS
Back to the topic of Prenatal massage! Mummies who come here gets to enjoy products that are safe and effective – the pampering stretchmark-reducing Dalton de la Mer’s Das massage oil, which is rumoured to be better than using cocoa butter!
Massage oils used are 100% safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. The oil is also water-soluble which makes it highly absorbent into the skin when used during massage. It creates a moisturising effect that leaves the skin soft and supple without any uncomfortable greasiness.
And Beauty. Mums & Babies is also well-known for their dedication in own employee – the massage therapists. Ms Genah’s employed masseurs are all certified and fully trained therapists who are fully knowledgeable on the health and well-being of mums and babies, and being Workforce Development Agency certified in prenatal massage, meaning all mums are undoubtedly in safe hands.
PRENATAL MASSAGE REVIEW
For regular mummy patrons at Beauty. Mums & Babies, you will be familiar with the 2nd outlet located at Paragon’s Tower 1 on level 14.
(Image below) This is where they focus more on Mum’s wellness such as Yoga Classes, Massage & Facial Sessions compare to the Level 5, Main Paragon building mainly concentrated with customers for Baby Spa & Massage sessions.
After a jiffy chat at their level 5 outlet, we head straight up to their another outlet on level 14.
I was promptly introduced to my highly experienced therapist with the filling of the mandatory waiver form check for allergies and my current health conditions together with their brewed cup of red date tea, then politely ushered into my massage room.
My therapist left me alone in a visually warm setting with a dimly lit room to strip to only a disposable underwear after her brief introductory on where to store my items. Even though the room was inbuilt with a central air-conditional system but it was comforting to know that the room wasn’t cold at all. What a great relief as I was having a stuffy nose that day.
Then, a short conversation with my friendly therapist began my euphoria session. As I lay down on my side with a leg over the side pillow, she covered my entire body with towels. She then cleaned my feet with a warm towel after which I was told that during my prenatal massage there won’t be kneading of the two soles.
The rub down was gentle, yet firm on my back and shoulder, and that was the only one part of the body exposed. So to those shy mummies, ease your concerns as you don’t have to worry if you are not comfortable in baring it all with your growing baby bum.
Along with some gentle nudge, my therapist who had an over 18 years of experience with pre-natal massage, gave me a few valuable tips and advice when we chat about my pregnancy and still get to make sure that I’m okay with her strength on certain tense spots. Personally, as much as I enjoy some quiet moments to doze off but I think it’s essential that the therapists check with her client on how they are feeling as different people have a different threshold for pain or pressure (especially I can’t take pain very well).
As she worked her way through my back, shoulders, legs and arms, I slowly dozed off into a slumber short nap. Until she gentle nudge me to switch to my other side for the second half of the massage and even turn on the bed warmer in case I was feeling cold.
My session ended with a special treatment after I told her I had aching pelvis. She skillfully addresses the troubling area and gently applies pressure to both sides with her well-trained techniques. It was such a comfortable session which made me feel a great relief from being too tense and the throbbing pain was gone (I know right, I didn’t believe it myself too)!
OVERALL REVIEW
With a fulfilling 60mins of rejuvenation and improved circulation, I had all the energy to head down for a retail therapy time at Paragon level 5 (kids level). Back at home, my sleep quality has been improved and I wasn’t waddling around the house anymore.
Benefits of massage improve overall prenatal health for many pregnant women, and I do enjoy my session with Beauty. Mums & Babies. I’ve already scheduled my next few weeks to complete my full package before my 36 weeks.
For mums who are looking for a therapeutic approach to pregnancy wellness, Beauty. Mums & Babies prenatal massage can be done between 20 weeks up to 36 weeks of your pregnancy. Any week beyond 37th, although some say can help to prep body for birth, it’s still better for mums to seek advice from your ob-gyn on the massage treatments if need to.
