So follow us as we curated several rooms for a uber-stylish staycation in New majestic hotel!
Lobby
In the hot summer mid-day, we set foot into New Majestic hotel situated in a heritage conservation shop house at 31 Bukit Pasoh Road. Warmly greeted by their friendly staff at the period- inspired lobby, co-existing a myriad of our traditional local cultures such as the signature trishaw and the rusty iron table fan by the corner which brings along a refreshing heritage ambiance amidst the bustling Chinatown.
The dramatic pool of colorful glass inserts floats above the stairways which led up to the swimming pool and art pieces in the lobby totally blown our sensory away. It seems more liked a living heritage of modern art and design rather than a hotel. So putting our bets on the table, we are sure the rooms are going to turn an interesting discovery!
CONCEPT: SINGAPORE FIRST DESIGN HOTEL
Bringing in a unique air to the boutique hotels industry in Singapore, the rooms are personalized into 6 creative tiers that consist of Attic suites, Lifestyle, Aqua, Premier Garden, Junior Lifestyle and Premier Pool which place huge emphasis on strong design, local culture and the Arts many of these designers are from our budding and professional local artists.
1. ATTIC ROOM AND LOFT BEDS
We love the Attic rooms which feature a high ceiling loft that blend design and furnitures within a compact space. It holds a separate living area and ladder access to a queen bed while the other highlight is a dual his-and-hers vintage cast-iron bathtubs easily puts the idea of staycation into place. Can anyone spot the vintage barber chair behind the stairs? Speak of which – this is the signature furniture that can be found in all 3 of the unlisted collection group hotel rooms in Hotel 1929 & Wanderlust Hotel, formerly owned collection from the Singaporean hotelier Loh Lik Peng.
# WHICH WAY I OUGHT TO GO: SANDRA LEE #
This room gives off a fairytale vibe thru the paintings on the wall – furry sheep hopping over the ocean and a cat in his boat not knowing where to go. Seem best suitable for couples who wish to indugle in this wanderlust getaway from everything else other than each other.
# FLAG, SAMSUI WOMAN: JUSTIN LEE #
Walking into another Attic suite with a theme of traditional Chinese letter “xi” famously used during Chinese wedding is now artfully pieces together into a shape of our Singapore flag on the wall. As popularly taken up by couples for mini solemnization ceremony or wedding party in this very room, we would love the idea of holding get-together gathering during national day or new year period with friends and family for a perfect photo worthy stay!
2. LIFESTYLE
Creatively personalize designed by top Singaporean individuals coming from theatre, fashion, graphic & fashion design. The 7 concept Lifestyle Rooms are ‘Wayang’, ‘The Pussy Parlour’, ‘Untitled’, ‘Work’, ‘Fluid’, ‘Fly Away’ and ‘Mirror’ with four of the designer rooms have the same layout as the Aqua Room.
# WATCH & BE WATCHED: COLIN SEAH #
Next up, we were at the MIRROR room with the only IRON CAST bathtub in the whole hotel. Baby Noah was amazed by all the reflections he saw when he looked up and around. It’s liked a mirror maze and if you draw open the curtains on both sides, you get to enjoy the continuous ribbon of mirrors all the way to the ceiling and ground!
3. AQUA
Overlooking Bukit Pasoh Road, next room we visited were the Aqua rooms with beautifully restored stained-glass windows, a private balcony and a lovely central glass-encased aquarium bathtub in the middle of the room. Offering two similar rooms being adjacent to each other that comes with either a male or female inspired wall plaque.
4. PREMIER GARDEN
The Premier Garden Rooms also feature unique art installations by different Singaporean artists and each comes with a private veranda and vintage cast-iron bathtub which is the perfect room we would chose to bring our kids to. Covering 6 themes from A Big Goldfish, Flwoerchild, I am upside down because of you, Memory, One day I Slowly Floated Away and Oriental Girls Go West that features murals of geishas holding modern items such as ipods and laptops in their hands, familiarly the reflection of our developed Asian society.
# ONE DAY I SLOWLY FLOATED AWAY #
This room sets in liked a luring temptation to be lost in a relaxed vibe with the tv right at the foot of the bed and welcoming outdoor deck for a sun basking bath. They also uses Nespresso in-room coffee maker, Kiehl’s toiletries and Bose stereo with iPod doc for a pampering personal touches to their guests, so tell me who can seriously resist such inviting scene? We definitely need not take a day float away in this getaway haven.
SWIMMING POOL
Despite being an intimate boutique hotel of 30 rooms, you will find that New majestic is stacked with facilities – a small gym on the second floor and a swimming pool that has a glass portholes! Interestingly way to find out what the diners are having in the below; serving Cantonese cuisine, Majestic Restaurant is helmed by internationally renowned, award-winning owner-chef Yong Bing Ngen.
