Easter day are all about sweets, treats, and chocolates! This year, Easter came early for us as we had an awesome time creating our very own edible chocolate mushroom inspired by the whimsical classic kids story Alice in Wonderland at Shangri-la Hotel Singapore (check out Shangri-la Rasa Hotel Sentosa – Family stays free package!) – an Enchanted Mushroom Workshop helmed by Area Executive Pastry Chef Hervé Potus! Not only it’s edible, you get to decorate it from scratch while enjoying a high-tea buffet slipping chocolate milk and pretty delicacies, and also bringing home the mini chef’s toque and apron as well as the complete Masterpiece! Want to know how to sign up your kiddos to kick start being a mini master chef?
Here’s our little guide to what happened down that savory rabbit hole at the workshop! *Enchanted Mushroom Workshop is available from 3pm to 5pm on 19, 20 and 26, 27 March 2016, at $88nett per child accompanied by two parents and includes a high-tea buffet*
We were firstly greeted by their friendly staff to put on mini chef’s toque, apron, and bunny ears before we headed into the room to chose our tables. All tables are placed low enough for kids to easy sit around, with cushion provided around the tables to decorate and assemble the Enchanted chocolate mushrooms!
There were coffee, tea and cold beverages served at the side for the daddies and mummies.
While another corner were well-stocked witth the high-tea buffet of canapes, cupcakes and sandwiches, with also the ideal height for the little ones to grab and enjoy.
This yummylicous high-tea buffet is included in the workshop which mainly consist of delish confectionary and some savory pies and buns too.
Look at the fresh juices and chocolate milk for the little ones!
The chocolate milk had us going back several time! While the adults(We) were admiring the pastry, our little one had went to check out the Alice in Wonderland themed toppings bar – with a mountain full of candies for the chocolate mushroom! As told by the Chef, the rabbit sitting on the chair was also made of chocolates so were the characters placed on the table. And it was editable though we don’t advise to go licking on them!
The toppings bar was so beautiful decorated with the theme, Someone had a *drop jaw* moment. Gosh, all those sugar!
The kids were given small paper cups to pick their own candies – plenty of colorful sprinkles, jelly beans, gummies, icing flowers and random icing animals! We were amazed to find easter eggs lying around as well but how could Easter workshop not have eggs right?
The stalwart team did a great job in these surreal characters created from eggs!
On our table we were given a guide to follow (which mainly told us to “grab as many candies as possible and go to a corner and eat it, then grab more and eat it!”), as well as a mushroom dome, mushroom base, cafe truffle mixture, chocolate ganache, silver cake base, piping bag of royal icing, scissors and gloves!
As our little one is still quite unsure of what to do, we were lucky to have the adorable bunny ear wearing – executive Chef Hervé came over to give us a hand.
Ta-da! Done in a blink! together with many rounds of candies eating along the way back and fro. 🙂
As soon as the mushroom dome was complete with the decorating, we hopped over to the Grassing table to mold our base and grass to decorate the base too.
Creating the grass patches by hand, we had some help from the chefs too! The kids had to grab a handful of fondant and roll it flat with a rolling pin, then press the fondant onto a sift to create the 3D grass.
Finally it was done! We were proud of the final work as our 19 months boy did a great job in pasting the flowers (with help from us of course) and created his first Enchanted mushroom masterpiece!
Then, we had our turn to enjoy our high-tea which we totally think it’s worth it for the price they offered for this workshop. (parents free while kids pay for $88 nett)!
And our boy went around to bid his farewell to his new friends while the staff kindly helped us to packed the Enchanted chocolate mushroom into a plastic container for us to bring home. Which was a great time after being a day of mini Masterchef, we say even toddlers also can enjoy doing workshops with parents. So should you!
Not forgetting to mention, The Line shop at Shangri-la Hotel gave us some really savory Danish pastries – Singapore Danish collections that come in 5 local flavours: Otah-otah, chicken curry, chilli crab, braised soya sauce pork and chicken satay which is available for $5.80 nett per piece, a must try if you are here!
