In the leading industry of Chilli Crabs to Fish head noodles for over 20 years of seafood-loving, Jing Long Seafood Restaurant started in Bedok as a humble zi char stall to the current location in Punggol. Pulling along a class of loyal customers who continuously supported and followed them thru the moving of its location, if you are planning for a local authentic dine-in with your family or friends, there is definitely something you can find here in this stalwart Seafood Restaurant to keep the whole brood replete.
The Red Garoupa steamboat came with a generous portion of fresh fish slices. Unlike the conventional coffee shop way of heating the steamboat with wax, this steamboat was heated up with charcoal that gave an extra rustic experience, but still if you prefer to stay in the air-conditioned seating you can enjoy the gas cylinder way of heating up the delectable boiled broth. We were also told that the fishes were brought in fresh and only prepared(cut) right before they were served to ensure the freshness of their seafood. This is definitely something you can taste when you have that briny meat in your mouth, and whether it’s worth coming back for, all depends on the chef’s effort in his dishes and Jing Long gave us a reason to!
The 2nd reason to visit Jing Long Seafood Restaurant; it’s crispy thousand island crepe and the savory duck stuffings in between – totally got us going for it over and over again. The unique stuffing were duck meat & a mixture of seafood blend together and deep fried and served as the starter to whet up our appetite before the main dishes were served. Our team gave our nods in agreement to call upon this dish if you have a huge group for sharing, we warn you though as there might be in demand for the same order of this appetizing dish to go around as it might disappear faster than you realise!
Next came along another starter which we see ourselves gnawing over it as well – the crispy roll slotted with scallop, banana and bak gua, an interesting combination that somehow reminds us of the Malay snack – Goreng Pisang but with 3 different texture within the frizzled crust. If you are ordering for 4 persons, you can choose likewise to our serving – 2 rolls cut into 4, which will be good enough for everyone to get one piece to share.
We deemed this as one of the signatures among all the other dishes, it’s great for families to order with kids and good to go along with plain rice as well! The crispy salted turnip (Also known as Cai Po) were flavorful and not a bit salty which is great for young children as the velvet tou fu melts in our mouth. We heard that it’s also among their highlight dish to order when family and friends gathered during occasions.
Our 5th reason to drop by this seafood restaurant by the lovely Punggol Beach is it’s palatable salted.. Egg.. prawn! Coming down to Jing Long, you should not miss out on the creatures from the sea especially with a generous spread of selections to choose from, we always love to include prawns in our list, and this salted egg prawn unquestionably did not disappoint us. Our say on this – clearly worthy of your money and time to travel just to have this savory salted egg prawn on your plate. Well, Look at the salted egg coating and the giant sized prawn! (Take us back there!)
For our 6th reason here was giving our palate an unique try on this dish which doesn’t taste liked the uncooked version. The first glance when it’s served, you might imagine it as sotong legs or another squid meat but actually they are just slices of crunchy eggplant stir-fried with french beans. If your family are looking for appetising dishes to go along with the rice, take a hit on this one, and you might be surprised how much you would grow to love vegan (if you don’t) with a twist.
How could zi char not come with a honey glazed pork ribs! There goes the vegetables, now come the meat! The ribs were tender and well-marinated with the spread of honey sauce, and we love the sweet savory taste on how it diffused into the meat. As tenderized as it was we highly recommended for families with little ones, they will love it as much as the adults.
Unlike the conventional hor fun this had many customers thinking that it was some fish maw decorating the noodles! The chef creatively fried some of the hor fun and sprinkled them above the stir fried ones which were submerged into the sauce as Dua la la Hor Fun. Try this out as this creative style of preparing the usual Hor Fun, takes on a different zi char experience as the yuan yang (in pairs but differentiate as male and female) noodle.
Leaving this prime reason to visit Jing Long Restaurants the last because it requires no explanation just by looking at the image. With a kilogram of weight, you can get this enticing Black Pepper crab from $58! The size was sufficient for a family of 4 to 5 person for that finger dipping into the scrumptious signature sauce which might consider a bit spicy to some people but we genuinely loved the peppery taste. The next time when you are down at The Punggol Settlement, consider dropping by Jing Long Seafood Restaurant to find back that authentic taste that have loyal customers coming back every month.
Do give your reservation an early booking if this is what you are looking for, especially for the new year feast!
